Hanging at the Bill Holman/ASMAC Seminar

This was a big treat to hangout in LA this past weekend and see my friend Larry G.(Larry Goldman, a great bassist/composer/arranger in his own right) and attend this ASMAC seminar of the great composer/arranger, Bill Holman!

Bill is pictured in the middle, Larry to left and me to right!

What a great day!

It is great starting a new band called "Resonance"!

Resonance is an octet, which is a merger between a string quartet and a Jazz quartet(ala the Coltrane setup).

This is very cool because it is a new twist and mix of the traditional european and american Jazz chamber music ensembles.

We're working on the CD right now, so hope to have some tunes for you soon!

My friend Eric and I hung out one nice summer night,

at the newly reopend Minton's Jazz club, in New York.

It was a great night, Dennis Davis, David Bowie's

former drummer, was playing. Dennis played on Bowie's,

Young Americans, Station to Station, Scary Monsters,

Low and Lodger records.

Very Cool!

Moog Lives Forever!

I was thinking that I would be remiss, if I had not
added a note to MandaBlog about a great influence for
me, Robert(Bob) Moog, the godfather of popular
Electronic Music and the inventor of the first
keyboard-equipped modular analog synthesizer. Bob Moog
past away August 21, 2005. Bob Moog died from brain
cancer at age 71 at his home in Asheville, N.C.

I was reminiscing on the first time I saw a picture of
a Moog synthesizer and heard one, was in sixth grade,
when I heard the "Switched-On Bach" LP by Walter
Carlos(now Wendy Carlos). I was very fascinated by the
sound, from just playing piano and organ in those
days. The first time I actually played a Moog, was the
Moog 3 modular synthesizer at the University of
Colorado in Denver in 1977. Man, that was too fun!!!
That same year, I played a Mini-Moog synthesizer
for the first time. I had and was playing ARP(Alan R.
Perlman) synthesizers at the time and had never really
played a Moog.

The ARP and Moog synthesizers are very dear to my
heart as synthesizers and even today, I still use
them. A never-ending source of sound inspirations!

At this point, all I can say is "Thank you so much Bob,
for your inventions!"

There are great articles all over the 'Net right now
on Robert Moog and a great movie as well.

New York Chillin' !!

It was great to be back in New York last week, to see some old friends.
Lots of great music was heard as well.

A very nice 24 hour diner in the Chelsea district of Manhattan, playing Electronica during my late night eating at 3am!

I picked up a lot of great music for a Mandala Radio show coming up.

Sheryl and Craig knock it out!

Just had a great recording session last weekend with
drummer Sheryl Mebane and bassist Craig Broussard, at
ZenSun studios.

Sheryl is not only a great drummer but holds a Phd in
Chemistry and is a published poet!

Craig is a fanatasic bassist out of the Oakland area,
with many credits to his name.

I'm looking forward to recording with these folks
again. Sorry I forgot to take photos at this stellar
session. :P

two new upcoming Synsor tunes, "Sky Talk" and "Looking

Ananya was teliing me that there will be some nice
Trance Soundsystem concerts this summer in Germany, if
anyone is over there at that time of year. Maybe you
will see Ananya!

Well the Mandala Radio broadcasts are fun to do. It will be nice to get more listners. The orginal artist hour has been working out very nicely.
Jazz trumpet/vocalist Michelle Latimer, rapper Nicki Love and this weekend, rapper Soz are doing live interviews. So this will be cool to keep presenting the original artist's hour.

All you original CD artist ontact me so we can setup some more interviews and get your CD played(Steve does a high five!!!!).

Wow!

Leedia just sent me some photos from her live
"Ministry of Sound" gig in London, this past November.
Leedia has been doing some work with the Defected
Label. Defected is a big "House" label.

Leedia is one of the featured singers on the second
Synsor CD "Variant". She co-wrote "Fania" with me,
doing some nice Spanish spoken word segments.
